New Mobile App from ooVoo Recognized as the Only Video Chat in the Top 10 at CES Awards Show
At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2011,ooVoo, a leading video communication service provider with a best-in-class mobile video chat solution, placed among the top ten finalists at the CES Mobile Apps Showdown. The event, attended by more than 500 participants, was held on Saturday, January 8, 2011 in Las Vegas.
ooVoo received 44,258 online votes, finishing second in online voting, and was the only video calling firm selected as a top 10 finalist. DriveSafe.ly 2.0, a mobile app that deactivates the keyboard while driving, won the Mobile Apps Showdown competition.
The Mobile Apps Showdown at CES, hosted by NetShelter and veteran technology journalist Robin Raskin, is a competition among the most innovative and exciting mobile apps at CES. The selection process included initial evaluation and screening of more than 100 entries by a judging panel of industry experts, an online popular vote hosted on the Mobile Apps Showdown website, and a live applause meter at the awards presentation at the Las Vegas Convention Center's North Hall.
"This recognition at Mobile Apps Showdown shows that mobile video calling is a hot category and the big winners will be companies that deliver the highest quality video chat service anywhere, anytime," said Philippe Schwartz, CEO at ooVoo. "ooVoo is creating positive buzz in award shows because ooVoo Mobile delivers essential features to the video chat marketplace that have been missing until now, and we're providing better quality than new market entries in mobile video chat."
In December 2010, ooVoo launched the first 4G mobile video chat service that simultaneously connects smartphone, PC and Mac users. With 20 million users worldwide, ooVoo broke new ground in mobile video chat by allowing up to six users to participate on a video call without compromising the high quality video experience. Available at launch on the Android market for HTC Evo and Samsung Epic devices, ooVoo will support other Android devices and Apple iPhone, iTouch and iPad in first quarter 2011.
At CES, ooVoo announced a joint effort with Qualcomm to provide the first high definition video chat offering on a mobile platform. At the "Everything Connected" section of the Qualcomm booth, ooVoo demonstrated the first multi-party, VGA high resolution mobile video chat solution on a production Android smartphone device.
