HUNTSVILLE, Ala., Jan. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA) and Intergraph Corp. have extended their long-standing relationship through a new executive appointment to the association's board of directors. "The coming year will be a critical time for GITA as well as the geospatial industry," said Bob Samborski, executive director at GITA. "We need to be responsive to changes in the industry and in our membership and I know that Kecia's presence on our Board of Directors will add a great deal of industry knowledge and expertise, as well as a longstanding familiarity with GITA and its educational mission.

"Intergraph and GITA share a strong commitment to using geospatial technology to address our serious infrastructure issues. Kecia will present her research on the benefits of utilizing geospatial technology to implement vegetation management solutions at GITA's Geospatial Solutions Conference, April 10-14, in Grapevine, Texas. Having Kecia Pierce at the highest level of association leadership will reflect extremely well on both GITA and Intergraph."

Pierce has been involved with GITA since 1994 supporting conferences, technical sessions, and continuing education seminars. She worked on the GITA Geospatial Solutions Conference planning committee from 2004 to 2009, and served as the conference co-chair for 2008 and the conference chair for 2009. She has worked in the technology sector for more than 20 years, with 18 of those being dedicated to geospatial solutions for the utilities and communications industries. During her work with GITA, Pierce has been instrumental to the program's inclusion of some of the most critical and key issues facing our industry today, such as aging infrastructure, renewable energy, smart grid, agency interdependency collaboration, field automation, and emergency response.

"The GITA association has always provided such unique opportunities for addressing all geospatial infrastructure aspects for those that design, build, own, maintain, operate, protect, and restore the world's infrastructure - gas, water, wastewater, electric, pipeline, communications, and transportation," said Pierce. "During such difficult economic times, I look forward to helping the association find new and innovative ways to get geospatial professionals involved and provide additional educational and technology advancement opportunities for those in the industries that we serve."

GITA is one of the largest educational associations serving the global geospatial community. Through a series of events, publications and other resources, GITA aims to bring together the nation's top geospatial professionals to foster information sharing and industry advancement.

Additional Intergraph professionals involved with GITA include Richard Adase, senior system consultant; John Bourguignon, account executive; Volker Elste, business development; and Kurt Nolte, account executive.
