CONSOL Energy Receives Ethics Award

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CONSOL Energy Inc. , the leading diversified energy producer in the Eastern United States, was awarded the 2011 Pittsburgh Business Ethics Award by the Society of Financial Services Professionals, Pittsburgh Chapter. The award recognizes CONSOL Energy for its commitment to the safety of its employees and its ethical business practices.

The Pittsburgh Business Ethics Award is designed to honor U.S. companies that demonstrate a firm commitment to ethical practices in their everyday operations, philosophies and in response to crises and challenges. Companies are evaluated on criteria including demonstration of executive commitment to business ethics, clear communication of ethical standards to employees, consistently high quality of products and services, and a commitment to community and charitable involvement.

"Our ethics program, much like our safety program, is one where there is no finish line," said CONSOL Chairman, President and CEO J. Brett Harvey. "Every day, our company seeks to act in a manner that promotes ethical behavior, whether that is toward our employees, the communities in which we work or the environment."

CONSOL Energy's corporate responsibility pledge is indicative of the company's views: "Powering the nation comes with great responsibility. As the region's largest producer of natural gas and coal, CONSOL takes its role and its responsibility as a leader in the energy industry seriously. From the safety of its employees, to stewardship of the land, to contributing to the communities in which we live and in always looking for ways to improve use of energy, CONSOL Energy strives for excellence every day. One way CONSOL Energy will fulfill part of this pledge in 2011 is by donating $6 million to the charities serving the communities in which we work.

"We have been operating in the region for the past 150 years with high standards and integrity and as a leader, our commitment to ethical behavior is not something we take lightly," Harvey said. "We are pleased and honored to have been recognized for that commitment."

CONSOL Energy Inc., the leading diversified fuel producer in the Eastern United States, is a member of the Standard & Poor's 500 Equity Index and the Fortune 500. It has 11 bituminous coal mining complexes in five states and reports proven and probable coal reserves of 4.5 billion tons. It is also the leading Appalachian gas producer, with proved reserves of over 3.7 trillion cubic feet.
