Sikorsky and SonAir Sign for Six S-76C++ Helicopters

ORLANDO, Fla., March 6, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. and SonAir Servico Aereo, S.A. (SonAir) today announced the signing of a contract for six S-76C++(TM) helicopters in a ceremony held at Heli-Expo. Sikorsky is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. .

SonAir has been flying Sikorsky products for more than 15 years in support of offshore oil operations in Angola. Currently, SonAir operates five S-76C++ aircraft and four S-76C+((TM)) helicopters in that capacity. With the signing of the new contract announced today, SonAir will have a total of 15 Sikorsky S-76(R) aircraft servicing offshore oil operations in Angola.

In addition, SonAir earlier contracted for three new S-76C++ helicopters for search and rescue (SAR) operations in Angola. Those aircraft are expected to arrive in Angola this year. Once all aircraft are flying, SonAir's total Sikorsky fleet will number 18 aircraft. The S-76C++ helicopter is the current production model in the S-76(R) aircraft line. In addition to serving the offshore oil and SAR markets, the helicopter's multi-mission capabilities include VIP transport including head of state, emergency medical transport, and civil defense.

The S-76D((TM)) helicopter is Sikorsky's latest commercial helicopter. Certification is scheduled for later this year, and final assembly has commenced at the Sikorsky Global Helicopters' facility in Coatesville, Pa. The S-76D helicopter features all-composite, flaw-tolerant main rotor blades; an advanced THALES integrated avionics system and autopilot; dual rotor speed for quiet mode operation with active vibration control; powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210S engines; a quiet mode; and an optional Rotor Ice Protection System (RIPS) for all-weather capability.
