Profile America -- Sunday, March 20th. Today is an important milestone for the winter weary -- as of 7:21 p.m., Eastern time, spring arrives. Hailed by poets as a season of renewal and flowers, it's also a time for rain. That's why March is National Umbrella Month, recognizing the familiar device that's been around at least since ancient Egypt, where it probably served as a shield from the sun. However, in many U.S. cities, trusty umbrellas are popped open to protect their owners from getting drenched. Two cities -- Mobile, Alabama and New Orleans -- have annual rainfalls well over 60 inches a year. The driest city is Reno, Nevada -- with just 7-1/2 inches annually.
