The Houston CPA Society, a chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, will host authorities from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), and others with insight on the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) to discuss key issues with users at the 31st annual Financial Reporting Symposium. The event will be 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, May 19, 2011, at the Westin Houston Memorial City, 945 Gessner.
Katherine Schipper, Thomas Keller Professor of Business at Duke University and former member of FASB, will moderate.
Michael McConnell, an executive director at Grant Thornton and vice chairman of the Society's Accounting and Auditing Committee, said Ms. Schipper encourages panelists to present their points of view. He expects discussion of changes to audit reports, new standard setting and the Dodd-Frank Act.

- Jay D. Hanson, recently appointed member of the PCAOB and former national director of accounting at McGladrey & Pullen LLP
- Gregory J. Jonas, managing director in Morgan Stanley's Equity Research group who has served a two-year fellowship at the FASB and other accounting committees
- James J. Leisenring, senior advisor to the Financial Accounting Standards Board and former vice chairman of FASB
- Ronald W. Lott, research director for the FASB and former project manager on FASB's research and technical activities staff
- Paul H. Munter, partner in KPMG Department of Professional Practice-Audit and lead technical partner for the US firm's international accounting activities and IFRS
- Scott A. Taub, managing director of Financial Reporting Advisors, LLC and former deputy chief accountant at SEC, and
- Phil D. Wedemeyer, Houston, partner in the National Professional Standards Group of Grant Thornton LLP. Wedemeyer formerly was director of Office of Research and Analysis of PCAOB.
The cost is $200 for members of Texas Society of CPAs and non-CPAs, and $250 for nonmember CPAs. A $25 late penalty applies to registrations after May 12.
