IRVINE, CA -- (Marketwire) -- 04/22/11 --ARC Southern California, the region's leading provider of imaging and document management services for the architecture, engineering, and construction industries, has been honored for its innovative sustainability practices. Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) based in Fairfax, Va. recognized an impressive 17 specialty-imaging companies from the United States, Canada and Europe for completing the 2011 Sustainability Recognition Program.
"Sustainability is more than just 'going green,'" said Marci Kinter, SGIA's vice president of government and business information. "Sustainability looks at the people, the profit and the planet, and these companies have made changes today that will have an enormous impact on the community in the future."
To be eligible for the award, companies had to submit a copy of their sustainability policy. The winners had policies that focused on reducing waste, creating recycling programs and, in ARC Southern California's case, forming a "green committee" in the workplace.
"ARC Southern California's 'Green Team' concept got the judges' attention," said Brian Condon, SGIA's Government Affairs Associate. "They were impressed that a company would actually take its environmental commitment outdoors and offer employees opportunities to get involved in local efforts such as tree planting and waterway cleanup events. Not only does this lend hands-on help to local environmental efforts, but it also has a team-building component to it. Very smart."
The Green Team has participated in beach and bay clean-ups, tree plantings, and non-native plant removal days at a county wilderness park, with ongoing events every month.
"Almost all of our employees enjoy the natural surroundings of Southern California and participating in outdoor activities year-round," noted Roger Lackey, senior regional vice president. "They jumped at the chance to participate in our company's Green Team efforts. It's a way to be good caretakers of our local environment -- and it's fun."
