Veterans at DC Area Hospitals Honored
WASHINGTON, April 30, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, members from Teamsters Local 122, Local 170 and Local 25 in Boston visited the National Naval Medical Center and Walter Reed Army Medical Center to honor veterans receiving medical care. Part of their visit included distributing donated iPods, as they have done on previous visits, and this time they also brought a performer to entertain the troops.

"Our veterans put their lives on the line to protect our country," said Joe Zuffante, president of Teamsters Local 122. "Paul Cardello, from Local 170, and Wayne Ford, from Local 25, came up with the idea of donating new and used iPods to veterans who are undergoing physical therapy as a way to help them relax. We are proud to be here to give a little something back to these brave men and women."
Local union members and retirees drove to Washington, D.C. yesterday, first stopping at the Teamsters headquarters building on Capitol Hill for a building tour and photos.
"I've been as a Teamster all my life and it is an honor," said Cardello. "The fact that my local union and state house representative, James R. Micelli (D), is supporting our fundraising is tremendous."
At the conclusion of the group's visit to Walter Reed Medical Center, Rick Larrimore, a Rod Stewart tribute performer who accompanied the group from Boston, put on a show for the troops and their families. Larrimore's show lifted the spirits of many of the wounded.
