FRC Action Praises Bipartisan House Majority for Approving 'No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act'

WASHINGTON, May 4, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- FRC Action, the lobbying arm of Family Research Council, praised the U.S. House of Representatives for passing today H.R. 3, "The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act." FRC Action also commended U.S. Reps. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Dan Lipinski (D-IL), who authored the bill that would codify and make permanent the Hyde Amendment across the federal government.

FRC Action's Super PAC, the Faith Family Freedom Fund, has launched radio ads in 18 congressional districts urging passage of the bill.

Of the vote, FRC Action President Tony Perkins said:

"We commend the bipartisan majority of the House of Representatives for finding common ground by permanently banning the flow of money between the federal government and the brutalprocedure of abortion.

"Compelling American taxpayers to hand over their hard earned dollars to pay for abortions can't be justified, especially at a time when our country is facing an economic meltdown brought on by a failure to stop the out-of-control spending in Washington.

"Abortion proponents are fond of saying abortion is a 'private choice,' but then why do they oppose removing publicfunding for this so-called 'choice?' Even more baffling is the fact that they removed baby Tylenol from health savings accounts under Obamacare, but oppose this bill because it removes abortion from these tax preferred accounts.

"Not only will this legislation protect the health of mothers and their unborn children but it also honors the wishes of Americans who, according to multiple polls over the past few years, oppose government funding of abortion by a margin of almost two to one.

"We call on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to act on this commonsense legislation and protect American taxpayers who regardless of their views of abortion's legality should not be forced to pay for or participate in this gruesome practice," concluded Perkins.

The legislation makes permanent multiple restrictions on abortion funding that have been passed for years, and it would also close the abortion-funding loopholes created by the new health care law. It also makes permanent the Hyde-Weldon conscience clause protecting health care workers who object to being forced by the government to participate in abortion.
