STORY SUMMARY: THIS REPORT FROM THE NATIONAL TAXPAYERS UNION.
DESPITE GAS PRICES AVERAGING THREE EIGHTY-EIGHT ACROSS VIRGINIA, CONGRESS IS CONSIDERING INCREASING TAXES ON U.S. ENERGY PRODUCERS. SOME TAX EXPERTS WORRY THAT THESE NEW TAXES WILL RAISE PRICES FOR VIRGINIANS AT THE PUMP AND GIVE A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE TO COMPANIES OVERSEAS.
PETE SEPP, EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE NATIONAL TAXPAYERS UNION:
"President Obama and his allies in Congress want to raise taxes on U.S. energy companies. But with drivers already feeling the pain, these new taxes will only make matters worse.
"Policymakers are also labeling legitimate business deductions as subsidies. That's false. These new taxes will actually double tax U.S. energy companies, handing foreign competitors a leg up over American workers.
"And even as the president has encouraged other countries to produce oil and gas, he continues to block U.S. companies from producing our domestic energy."
"Inflating prices of the energy our economy needs for a strong recovery is unproductive and unfair to American families. Voters should tell Congress: no new energy taxes."
