Parkmobile and Liberty PlugIns Debut Pay by Phone Electric Vehicle Charging

PITTSBURGH, May 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Parkmobile, a leader in the rapidly growing market for pay by phone parking services, and Liberty PlugIns (LPI) have teamed to permit EV charging revenues to be collected by mobile phones. Drivers use their cell phones and native mobile apps for iPhone, BlackBerry and Android to pay for a charging session and the revenues are deposited directly into the parking lot owners and operators existing merchant banking accounts.

LPI's Synchronous Codes algorithm is installed on Parkmobile's system server and creates unique authorization codes that are transmitted to drivers via their mobile app or text message. This approach enables parking lot owners and operators to create a revenue stream from both parking and EV charging without having to install additional billing hardware or deal with proprietary billing systems.

"Pay by phone billing and Synchronous Codes were made for each other," said Forest Williams, Vice President, Sales and New Business Development, Liberty PlugIns Inc. "This is the wave of the future. Cell phones are already used to pay for everyday purchases in most of Europe and Asia. Tech savvy EV drivers will appreciate the convenience."

"This service comes at just the right time," said Albert Bogaard, President and CEO of Parkmobile USA, Inc. "Cash strapped cities and publicly funded institutions like colleges, hospitals, and airports have the opportunity to develop a completely new revenue source and simultaneously make a huge contribution towards the twin goals of carbon emission reduction and the development of EV charging infrastructure."
