Impact Society: Local Heroes Head Back to Class to Inspire Youth

CALGARY, ALBERTA -- (Marketwire) -- 05/25/11 -- Editor's Note: There are 2 videos associated with this press release.

Mayor Naheed Nenshi is officially kicking off a new campaign this week that invites community leaders to meet with junior high students at various schools across the city to talk about their experiences of growing up and overcoming challenges. By sharing their heartwarming and often larger-than-life stories, these local heroes - ranging from athletes and designers to business leaders and musicians - will inspire teens to discover their inner heroes, find success, and learn to give back to others. A complete list of the participants is available here: http://media3.marketwire.com/docs/heroes_portraits.pdf

Believing that Calgary teens are lucky to live in a city where they can be and do anything, Mayor Nenshi has recorded a series of YouTube videos that speak to the impact a generation of inspired youth can have on our community.

The campaign is organized by Impact Society, a Calgary nonprofit and national leader in teen development, and creator of HEROES™ -an experiential learning program that builds improved planning and decision-making skills, self-esteem, resistance, self-restraint, and 26 other characteristics that contribute to teen success http://www.impactsociety.com/downloads/Appendix.pdf. The first round of the Meet a Hero Campaign will take place between May 27 and June 17 and then continue again in the fall. All visits will be shared through social media at http://www.impactsociety.com.

"We are thrilled that so many community leaders have made a concrete commitment to local teen development through our Meet a Hero campaign," says JackToth, Founder and CEO of Impact Society. "We want teens to know that everyone can be a hero, and believe these one-hour visits with local heroes will impact our students for years to come."
