Pro Bono Partnership, which provides free legal assistance to nonprofit organizations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, has launched a new website, www.probonopartnership.org, which provides easy access to a broad range of business legal advice.
Nonprofits can contact Partnership staff attorneys through the site to apply for legal services on a wide range of business issues or for answers to quick questions. The site also provides a collection of articles on legal topics and answers to frequently asked questions. For training about their legal obligations, nonprofits can also register through the site for workshops, like "Board Responsibilities in Challenging Times," "Social Media and Technology Issues for Nonprofit Employers;" or "Three Cups of Lessons: A Teachable Moment for Nonprofits."
Hundreds of corporate and law firm volunteers help the Partnership provide most of its services to nonprofits without charge. Attorneys wishing to volunteer for the Partnership's clients can register through the website.
This new robust website was made possible by a grant from the Westchester Community Foundation (WCF). The Foundation, which has a strong commitment to strengthening Westchester County, NY, nonprofits, helped fund the site redevelopment and supports the Partnership's legal services to Westchester nonprofits. "The Foundation believes a grant to the Pro Bono Partnership is money well-spent. In this economy, market rate legal services are beyond the stretched budgets of most nonprofits that regularly need legal advice to ensure compliance with the law and to avoid costly mistakes." said Catherine Marsh, the Foundation's Executive Director. "The new website will not only benefit the nonprofit agencies but also the tens of thousands of individuals served by these nonprofits."
The Westchester Community Foundation is a nonprofit community endowment for the benefit of Westchester County. Its mission is to develop and manage philanthropic resources, and to distribute them in a way that is responsive to donor interests and community needs. The Foundation actively promotes charitable giving on behalf of the area's nonprofit organizations. WCF is a division of The New York Community Trust, one of the largest community foundations in the country with assets of approximately $1.8 billion.
