Statement by Bipartisan Policy Center President Jason Grumet on the Nomination of John Bryson as Secretary of Commerce

WASHINGTON, May 31, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is a statement by Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) president Jason Grumet on President Obama's announcement to nominate John Bryson as Secretary of Commerce. Previously, Bryson served on the BPC's National Commission on Energy Policy and National Transportation Policy Project.

"The Administration has made the right choice nominating John to be the next Commerce Secretary. He is a problem solver with vision. Through his work at the intersection of industry, government and advocacy, John has shown he can set a clear direction and motivate broad coalitions to get the job done.

"Over the past three years, John has contributed greatly to the work of the Bipartisan Policy Center. While John worked to guide our overall energy agenda as a commissioner on our National Commission on Energy Policy, his colleagues at Edison provided key leadership on our Task Force on America's Future Energy Jobs. The Task Force examined the ability of our work training and education programs to maintain a highly reliable, economically affordable electric power system while modernizing the nation's electric generating infrastructure.

"John was also an original member of our National Transportation Policy Project, which proposes reforming the federal transportation program given current fiscal and political realities. His understanding about the importance of infrastructure to our economy will make him a critical voice at the table. We wish John luck in this new chapter of his storied career."
