World IPv6 Day Passes the Consumer Test, Finds Light Reading

CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 8, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- With much of the world taking a 24-hour test flight using the new IPv6 internet protocol today, consumers using equipment approved by their broadband providers should expect no troubles with their service, according to Light Reading (www.lightreading.com).

According to Internet Society, the goal of World IPv6 Day is to motivate organizations across the industry - Internet service providers, hardware makers, operating system vendors and Web companies - to prepare their services for IPv6 to ensure a successful transition as IPv4 addresses run out. To provide the global communications industry with the tools needed to properly assess the success of this transition, Light Reading has collected a recent batch of articles and blogs to help the telecom industry understand what issues service providers are anticipating and how they are prepared to handle the technical challenges associated with IPv6.

"The conclusion we are reporting is that unless consumers have less than optimum equipment, this much-anticipated transition has not negatively affected them, and will not," said Joseph Braue, EVP and Group Director of the Light Reading Communications Network. "Light Reading's site enables our visitors to receive this kind of real-time, comprehensive content on IPv6 and to interact with our editors and experts on today's news through our message boards."
