Beta Gamma Sigma, the International Honor Society, serving business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, recently awarded Martin Tuchman its coveted 2011 Business Achievement Award. According to the honor society, the award is given annually to recognize "significant achievements over a career or by a singular achievement that has advanced the field of business and contributed to community and to humankind." He was nominated for the award by Seton Hall University's Stillman School of Business.
Tuchman is involved with various charitable non-profit organizations including the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) on whose board of trustees he has served since February 2003. To encourage others to replicate TASK's model and feed hungry people in their communities, he conceived a workbook furnishing guidance on the operation of a community facility. The book, Mission Possible: How You Can Start and Operate a Soup Kitchen, which he co-authored with Irwin Stoolmacher and Peter Wise,will be published this June.
He was the subject of an extensive article last year outlining his dedication to the funding of research in the neurological disorders of Parkinson's Disease and recently spoke to an audience of several thousand people in New York City, on the occasion of the Parkinson's Unity Walk in Central Park about the significant breakthrough in gene therapy. It involved the creation of dopamine neurons from skin cells in people with Parkinson's Disease. This project was jointly funded by The Parkinson's Unity Walk and The Parkinson's Alliance, both of which he is the Chairman in conjunction with Stanford University.
Tuchman's case study materials on the use of information technology in transportation, citing Interpool Inc., the container and chassis leasing firm he co-founded, is part of the permanent research collection on Information Technology at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History.
Earlier Cisco, in a National competition, awarded him the grand prize recognizing Interpool as it relates to the use of Network Technology in the gathering of data at depots throughout the country and disseminating this information to its customers throughout the world.
At the same time Forbes Magazine included Interpool as one of America's 200 Best Small Companies.
In March he was appointed to the Board of Directors of SeaCube Container Leasing Ltd., one of the world's largest container leasing companies. Tuchman possesses more than forty years of container leasing and transportation experience.
Tuchman is also a member of the Polytechnic Institute of New York University's Enterprise Learning Board of Directors. Polytechnic Institute of New York University meets the complex needs of large organizations worldwide, helping tie learning to objectives in areas of technical leadership and by introducing strategic ways to launch new tools and technologies, with operations in China, Europe, Africa and South America.
Tuchman also serves as Vice Chairman of First Choice Bank located in Mercerville NJ.
