Bombardier Selects Hamilton Sundstrand for Key Systems on Global 7000 and Global 8000 Business Jet Platform

PARIS, June 20, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- PARIS AIR SHOW -- As announced on May 16, 2011, Bombardier Aerospace has selected Hamilton Sundstrand Corporation to provide key systems content on the new Global 7000* and Global 8000* business jets. Hamilton Sundstrand is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

Hamilton Sundstrand will provide the aircraft's electric system, including generation and distribution, the high lift actuation system and the auxiliary power unit system.

The variable frequency electric power generation system also comprises primary and secondary power distribution, and a ram air turbine emergency power system. Hamilton Sundstrand will also manage the integration of the aircraft's entire power system.

The high lift actuation system contains electronic control computers and sensing devices, electric drive units, rotary and linear mechanical actuators, cockpit control levers and mechanical driveline components.

The auxiliary power unit provides a 25 percent power-to-weight improvement, relative to current technology APUs. Built from our proven APS2300 APU product, the Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft APU is optimized for high-altitude operation, at a reduced weight.

"Bombardier has been one of our most valued customers for many years," said Hamilton Sundstrand president Alain M. Bellemare. "Today, with our selection on the new Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft program, we continue to strengthen our close relationship with Bombardier."

These newest entries to Bombardier's Global* aircraft family have ultra long-range capability. Respectively, the Global 7000 and Global 8000 aircraft will have a 7,300- and 7,900-nautical mile range, at Mach .85.**

As previously announced on April 11, 2011, Hamilton Sundstrand was named as one of four recipients of Bombardier's 2010 Corporate Social Responsibility Awards and the Hamilton Sundstrand Puerto Rico facility was one of eight recipients of the new Bombardier Achieving Supplier Excellence (BASE) recognition award.

Hamilton Sundstrand provides systems for a variety of Bombardier's aircraft programs, including the Challenger*, Global*, CRJ*, and CSeries* families of aircraft.

With 2010 sales of $5.6 billion, Hamilton Sundstrand is headquartered in Windsor Locks, Conn. Among the world's largest suppliers of technologically advanced aerospace and industrial products, the company designs, manufactures and services aerospace systems and provides integrated system solutions for commercial, regional, corporate and military aircraft. It also is a major supplier for international space programs.

United Technologies Corp., based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the building and aerospace industries worldwide.
