Bunker Hill Community College Professor to Participate in National Entrepreneurial Event

BOSTON, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bunker Hill Community College Professor Tony Fontes has been invited to present the College's first student-sustainable business plan at the 9th annual conference of The National Association for Community College Entrepreneurship (NACCE). Fontes is an Assistant Professor of Business Administration and advisor to the student Sustainability Club. The conference will be held October 9-12th, 2011, in Portland, Oregon.

NACCE is dedicated to helping community colleges gain new ideas, strategies and tactics that can be useful in developing their entrepreneurship programs. The annual conference brings together community college professionals and successful entrepreneurs to discuss entrepreneurship education as well as local business development initiatives.

The presentation Fontes will give, "Entrepreneurship and Sustainability: Creating a Profitable and Green Student-Run Business," is part of a special extended breakout session at the conference. Fontes will showcase the business plan he developed with BHCC students for a mobile kiosk stocking eco-friendly clothing and merchandise with the College logo. The kiosk will open on campus in Fall 2011.

"This is the first business developed by the student Sustainability Club," said Fontes. "The students want to demonstrate that you can have a profitable business while keeping the environment in mind. Ultimately, we hope the BHCC kiosk project will provide a hands-on learning model that any college can implement."

The College's entrepreneurship program includes an academic component, as well as student projects and partnerships with local businesses and high schools.
