Xilinx 28nm Kintex-7 FPGA Takes "Highly Commended Prize" at Japan's The Semiconductor Industry News2011 Semiconductor of the Year Awards

TOKYO, July 13, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Xilinx K.K., the Japanese subsidiary of the world's leading supplier of programmable logic solutions, Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX), today announced that its Kintex'-7 Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) has won the "Highly Commended Prize" in The Semiconductor Industry News' 2011 Semiconductor of the Year awards.

The world's first shipping FPGA built on 28nm process technology was recognized for advanced features - such as the family's Agile Mixed Signal (AMS) analog interface and 12.5Gbps serial transceivers - that meet key customer requirements for delivering optimal price-performance at the lowest power consumption. The Kintex-7 FPGA was also recognized for its excellent extensibility that stems from the unified architecture of the entire Xilinx's 28nm 7 Series families. Starting with a Kintex-7 device, the unified architecture enables designers to easily scale their designs down to the smallest Artix'-7 FPGA all the way up to the largest Virtex®-7 FPGA that uses breakthrough silicon interposers and through-silicon vias (TSV) technologies to support designs using up to a record 2 million logic cells.

The Semiconductor of the Year awards are presented by The Semiconductor Industry News, published by Sangyo Times, Inc., for semiconductor products and technologies that play a key role in the latest IT equipment and industries. The well-established award is in its 17th year this year. The Semiconductor Industry News journalists nominate products and technologies, and winners are selected from candidates in three categories-semiconductor devices, semiconductor production equipment, and electronic materials for semiconductors. Products and technologies announced between January 2010 and March 2011 were eligible for the award, and the winners were selected by a vote of journalists based on innovative design, volume production structure, impact on society, potential, and other similar criteria.

"The Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGA is groundbreaking-the world's first 28nm FPGA to hit the market," said President Wataru Izumiya of Sangyo Times. "We expect this product, which combines excellent performance with low power consumption and flexibility, the greatest advantage of FPGAs, to provide Japan's electronics industry with tremendous possibilities and help them enhance their international competitiveness."

"We are honored that our Kintex-7 FPGA took the Highly Commended Prize in the semiconductor device category of the 2011 Semiconductor of the Year 2011," said President Sam Rogan of Xilinx K.K. "We've been getting lots of inquiries from customers since we started the world's first shipments of 28nm FPGAs in March, and as an FPGA business leader, we're committed to ensuring reliable shipments of the 7 series and enhancing our development tools and other aspects of our user support program."

About Xilinx Kintex-7 FPGAs

The Kintex-7 K325T device is the first FPGA in its class to deliver the highest number of channels per dollar at less than 12 watts of power for LTE wireless radio cards and next generation wireless base stations. Kintex-7 FPGAs provide the optimized price-performance required for flat panel displays, portable ultrasound equipment and many other applications and include high bandwidth, low jitter serial transceivers to address price sensitive wired communication applications. The Kintex-7 K325T FPGA is the first of 28 devices making up the 7 series family that includes the Artix-7 and Virtex-7 FPGA families.
