SOUTH WINDSOR, CT -- (Marketwire) -- 09/02/11 -- With the National Football League ready to kick off its 2011 regular season schedule, it's no surprise that NFL teams dominated TicketNews' exclusive events rankings for August 2011, compiled August 1-30.
The NFL season officially starts September 8, when the previous two Super Bowl champions, the New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers, square off at Lambeau Field in Green Bay. The Packers were one of four teams that found their way into the rankings for the month and landed at No. 20.
The Dallas Cowboys were the best-seller of the NFL teams, finishing within the Top 10. The other teams in TicketNews' rankings were the San Francisco 49ers (No. 16), who hope to bounce back this season under new head coach Jim Harbaugh, and the San Diego Chargers (No. 19), a team that some sports insiders have pegged as Super Bowl contenders.
As the NFL season starts, Major League Baseball enters the final month of its regular season. American League East rivals the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees were the only two teams in TicketNews' Top 20. Their respective finishes at No. 7 and No. 14 echo their current one-two placement on the AL East standings.
Hot Concerts from August:
- Tickets to the upcoming Watch the Throne Tour with Jay-Z and Kanye West went on sale in early August, quickly making the tour one of the month's top sellers. The 22-city tour begins October 29 in Atlanta.
- Selena Gomez made a huge improvement over her July ranking, skyrocketing to sixth place for August. The Disney star has been touring all summer and just recently announced a Canadian tour leg that starts October 13.
- Coming off her recent performance at MTV's Video Music Awards, singer Adele finished August at No. 13. While she has no dates scheduled for September, she will resume her postponed U.S. tour on October 7 in Atlantic City.
