WHAT: | The Hyde Leadership Charter School (Hyde-Bronx) has opened the doors to its brand new custom-designed 31,500 square-foot high school building in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx - the poorest Congressional district in the nation. It will be the sole occupant of the building.
Hyde-Bronx administrators, teachers and parents made the decision not to have students enter through metal detectors, the way most other public schools do.
WHY: | Although Hyde-Bronx is located in the significantly disadvantaged Hunts Point neighborhood, the school believes that students need to feel respected and responsible. Hyde® is known for its positive peer culture and the genuine concern that students and teachers extend to one another. This provides the kind of learning environment that builds confidence, self-esteem, self-discipline, and a safe environment where boundaries are clearly defined.
WHERE: | The new high school building opens on September 7th and is located at 830 Hunts Point Avenue in the South Bronx.
