The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® today received two major awards from two different groups.
CEA received the 2011 CARE award, its third straight, from Northern Virginia Family Services (NVFS). The CARE award is given annually to Northern Virginia companies that are leaders in providing family-friendly benefits to help employees balance work and life.
"CEA takes great pride in receiving this recognition from NVFS and continuing to support a family-friendly workplace that encourages work-life balance," said Gary Shapiro, CEA president and CEO. "Our staff is our top asset, and CEA's employees provide direct input to ensure they can enjoy the diversity and depth of our benefits which allows us to be supportive of employees and their families."
Benefits CEA offers to support work-life balance include a 35-hour work week with flexible hours and encouraging all employees to work from home one day a week. In addition, to encourage even shorter commutes, CEA offers a unique mortgage assistance benefit through which qualified employees can receive a $25,000 unsecured, forgivable loan to apply to a down payment on the purchase of a primary residence in Arlington County, where the offices are located.
The CARE Awards are designed to encourage companies to institute family-friendly programs by exposing them to ideas and thoughtful discussions with business leaders who have already embraced such policies. NVFS works to empower individuals and families to improve their quality of life and to promote community cooperation and support in responding to family needs.
Also, yesterday in New York, CEA's Innovation Movement Video Brochure for Capitol Hill received a PR News Platinum PR Award for best video program and an honorable mention for best external publication. CEA's Innovation Movement Video Brochure is an innovative, interactive brochure – the first ever developed for policymakers – titled "America is Ready for a Comeback." CEA distributed the brochure to every member of Congress last spring to educate them on CEA's Innovation Movement public policy agenda. The Platinum PR Awards set the industry benchmark for excellence across all areas of public relations.
"Our industry continually brings revolutionary new technologies to market, and CEA is proud to be honored for this unique multimedia brochure that educated lawmakers about policy positions that we believe will help restore economic prosperity," said Shapiro.
