SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 18: REHABILITATION WEEK
Profile America - Sunday, September 18th. This is the first day of the week-long National Rehabilitation Awareness celebration. One of its goals is to salute the determination of the nation's 36 million residents who confront their disabilities as they go about their daily lives. Another is to say thanks to the thousands of rehabilitation professionals, who help those in need adapt to and overcome their disabilities. Some of these disabilities have been life long in nature, others stem from strokes and other medical conditions, as well as from severe accidents. Thousands are recovering from injuries suffered while in combat in Iran and Afghanistan. There are nearly 20 million Americans who have difficulty walking or climbing stairs.
