The HNBA Board of Governors and The Board of Directors of The HNBA Legal Education Fund Jointly Announce The Honorable Lupe S. Salinas (Ret.) as Co-Editor of The HNBA Journal of Law and Policy

WASHINGTON, Sept. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Hispanic National Bar Association and Board of Governors ("HNBA") and The Board of Directors of The HNBA Legal Education Fund ("The Fund") are pleased to announce that The Honorable Lupe S. Salinas (Ret.), Professor of Law, will serve as Co-Editor of The HNBA Journal of Law and Policy.

"The HNBA Board of Governors is excited to announce that Lupe Salinas will join me as Co-Editor of The HNBA Journal of Law and Policy. Lupe's long and distinguished legal career, including his tenured faculty position with the Texas Southern University Thurgood Marshall School of Law, makes him more than qualified for this position. I look forward to working with Lupe to continue to highlight Hispanic legal issues in the law," said Mr. Benny Agosto, Jr., HNBA National President and Co-Editor of The HNBA Journal of Law and Policy.

"The HNBA Legal Education Fund's Board of Directors joins me in congratulating Professor Lupe Salinas on his leadership role in one of the HNBA's crown jewels. The Fund is proud to raise money to financially support this very important charitable and educational program. We are proud to partner with the HNBA on this joint educational outreach program which is now in its third edition," said Mr. Roman D. Hernandez, Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Fund.

The Honorable Lupe S. Salinas (Ret.) Professor of Law served as a Texas state court judge for 16 years before becoming a tenured law professor at The Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas. In addition, Professor Salinas served as an Assistant United States Attorney and as a Special Assistant to the United States Attorney General as well as a staff attorney with the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund at earlier points in his career. A prolific author, he has written numerous articles concerning Hispanics and the law, including educational disparities encountered by Hispanic students in our nation's educational system. He currently serves as Chair of the HNBA Civil Rights Section, a position to which he has been appointed by three HNBA National Presidents. In 2010, the Government of Mexico awarded him with its prestigious "Othli Award" for his many contributions to Mexican nationals living in the United States. This is the highest award bestowed by the Mexican government to a foreigner. Professor Salinas stated, "I am honored to serve alongside Mr. Agosto as Co-Editor of The HNBA Journal of Law and Policy wherein we will continue to raise and discuss Hispanic issues and the law. I am joining the editorial board of the Journal at a pivotal time in our Nation's history, and I am very excited about this opportunity. I thank both the Board of Governors of the HNBA and the Board of Directors of the Fund for their confidence in me."
