Katie Couric to Moderate Panel at Global Forum on Inequality in Education for Girls

TROY, New York: Out of the world's 130 million out-of-school youth, two-thirds are girls.* Studies show a strong correlation between the continued cycles of poverty and girls' lack of access to a quality education.

What: During a two-day AUDACIA forum, the global forum for girls' education, Katie Couric, American journalist and author, and several globally-recognized guests will discuss the inequality of education for girls and share best practices that address this growing global issue. Ultimately, the forum will create new relationships that will increase the effectiveness of organizations currently focused on this topic.

The Emma Willard School, founding sponsor of AUDACIA, is the nation's oldest, non-sectarian school for girls. Its mission "to serve and shape the world" is not only its hope for its graduates, but a commandment for itself. AUDACIA garners resources for programs and practices that will eradicate the barriers of poverty, violence, and prejudice that prevent girls from receiving a quality education.

Over 100 educators, corporate leaders, and human practitioners will attend this invitation-only event.

Some guest speakers include: Anne van Zyl (Head of Academy, Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls); Anika Rahman (President and CEO, Ms. Foundation for Women); Trudy Hall (Head of School, Emma Willard School); Abigail Disney (President, Fork Films and Co-President, Daphne Foundation); Holly Gordon (Executive Director, 10x10); Meera Gandhi (Founder and CEO of The Giving Back Foundation); Gina Reiss-Wilchins (Director, Girl Up, UN Foundation); Carol Jenkins (Emmy award-winning TV producer and Women's Media Center founding president); Sara Bowers Posada (Girls' Education Program Manager, Nike Foundation); Elizabeth Colton (Founding President of the International Museum of Women and member of AUDACIA Advisory Council); Jensine Larsen (Founder, World Pulse); and Kavita N. Ramdas (Executive Director, Ripples to Waves at Stanford University and member of AUDACIA Advisory Council).

September 26-27, 2011, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET
