Will Sasso, Rip Torn, Sophie Monk and Ian Ziering Star
Image Entertainment, Inc. (OTCQB: DISK) has acquired North American theatrical, home entertainment and digital rights to National Lampoon's The Legend of Awesomest Maximus. Director Jeff Kanew (Revenge of the Nerds) points his cinematic lance directly at the funny bone with this sinewy satire of "sword and sandal" epics like 300, Spartacus, Gladiator and Alexander. The announcement was made by Image's Chief Acquisitions Officer Bill Bromiley.
"The Legend of Awesomest Maximus is the perfect slapstick comedy with a hilarious cast," commented Bromiley. "Slapstick is a genre that has a long history in film as well as theatre and has proven itself again and again. We're delighted to be distributing Awesomest Maximus."
National Lampoon's The Legend of Awesomest Maximus features a cast of veteran jesters including Will Sasso(upcomingThe Three Stooges, "Mad TV"),Rip Torn (Dodgeball), Ian Ziering("Beverly Hills 90210"), Tony Cox (Bad Santa), Sophie Monk(Date Movie) andKristanna Loken (Terminator 3). Director Kanew, who also helmed Troop Beverly Hills and Gotcha!, produced this film along withCharley Cabrera, Lisette Bross, Dan Farah and Jason Burniescu.
Once upon a time, sexually clueless Trojan Prince Orlando ran off with Greek King Erotic's young wife Ellen (Monk) in an attempt to prove to his father, King Looney (Torn), that he is not gay – a forgone conclusion to anyone in the kingdom with even a smidge of gaydar. Enraged, King Erotic gathers his Greek army and wages war on Troy. It is now up to Awesomest Maximus (Sasso) – Troy's bumbling Impostor General – to lead 300 Trojan soldiers against King Erotic's million man army. Why only 300? Please…
Will Awesomest overcome his considerable shortcomings and lead Troy to victory against such a formidable foe? Or will King Erotic's army, led by the codpiece cramming Testiclees (Ziering), poke a tragic hole in the Trojans? History will be made as the story hysterically unfolds.
