Berchert is based in the firm's Fairfax, VA, office and reports to Sam Spata, AIA, LEED® AP BD&C, executive vice president of STV's Buildings and Facilities Division.

Berchert's career spans more than 30 years, focusing on facilities planning and design for colleges and universities. His strong portfolio includes student residences, sports facilities, student recreation centers, teaching and research laboratories, and classroom/learning centers.

He brings to STV a broad background in the design of research laboratories for corporations and institutions, healthcare facilities, federal installations, and multi-use developments for corporate and commercial clients. One example of his notable design work is the recently-completed science facility at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. The 680,000 square-foot, 11-story research building houses support facilities and clinical, research and teaching laboratories for BioMed 21, Washington University's research initiative to rapidly translate basic research findings into advances in medical treatment.

Berchert received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career on projects such as the Boston University Fitness and Recreation Center and Agganis Arena, the Suffolk University Somerset Street Housing project and the Worcester Polytechnic Institute East Hall, all in Massachusetts. His work at the student residents towers at 33 Harry Agganis Way at Boston University was featured on NBC's the Today Show and included in a New York Times article on new luxury dorms.

Prior to joining STV, Berchert was a design principal at a nationally and internationally recognized architecture and engineering, planning and design firm with offices throughout North America and abroad.

Berchert earned a Master of Architecture from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and a bachelor's degree from Vassar College. He is a registered architect in Virginia, Maryland, the District of Columbia, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts, Hawaii, and Ontario, Canada. He is also a member of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.

With more than 1,700 employees in 32 offices, STV is a leader in providing architectural, engineering, planning, environmental and construction management services for buildings and facilities, transportation systems, and infrastructure.
