Disabled Veterans National Foundationannounces that nine trucks filled with furniture valued at more than $530,000 have been delivered to Pine Belt Mental Heathcare Resources in Hattiesburg, MS. The furniture will be used in 24 apartments for veterans in the new Freedom Hall complex at Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Services. Additional furniture will help other veterans service organizations including local American Legion and VFW Posts in the Pine Belt area that have direct outreach programs.
"We understand the need and lack of other funding sources for so many veterans who seek temporary or longer term housing in places like the Freedom Hall residential apartments in Hattiesburg and the Pine Belt area of Mississippi," said Precilla Wilkewitz, President of the DVNF. "Simply having furniture such as desks, dressers, chairs and sofas can make all the difference in the world to a veteran trying to live a normal life. We are supplying them with the basics so many people take for granted who are not in need of a home or a safe place to stay."
For more than 30 years, Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources (www.pbmhr.com) has provided services for adults suffering from mental health illnesses, emotional disturbances and addiction. The remaining truckloads of residential furniture will be delivered in the coming days and any excess not used at Freedom Hall will be distributed to area groups who help veterans.
"We are so grateful to our donors and supporters to be able to help groups like Pine Belt who do such great work to help Veterans get back to living optimal lives on their own," said Wilkewitz.
