Will ask Schubert Theatres and Sotheby's to End Lockout of Art Handlers
Teamster members and supporters will protest tomorrow outside opening night of the new Broadway play "The Mountaintop" at the Bernard Jacobs Theatre. The Jacobs Theatre is part of the Schubert Theatre chain.
The protesters will call on the Schubert Theatres to end the lockout at Sotheby's Auction House. Schubert board member Michael Sovern is the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Sotheby's [NYSE: BID], which locked out its staff of 43 art handlers three months ago.
Despite making $774 million in total revenue last year and the near doubling of its CEO's salary, Sotheby's continues to insist on the right to eliminate retirement for current employees, and the complete elimination of benefits and union protections for all new employees.
