Harrisburg - Governor Tom Corbett will address the 2011 Fall Waterways Symposium at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, to discuss the importance of waterways and ports to the national transportation system and infrastructure investment.
The governor will be available to answer questions from the media after his remarks.
The 12-county area surrounding the Port of Pittsburgh Commission waterway district supports 45,000 direct jobs and 217,000 total jobs, in areas of transportation, steel-making, chemical-making, power-generating and distribution, as well as educational, recreational, environmental and tourism activities. The counties in the PPC district include: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Blair, Butler, Clarion, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington and Westmoreland.
