HOUSTON, TX -- (Marketwire) -- 10/20/11 -- Hundreds of community neighbors celebrated the new Methodist Center for Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine at Willowbrook and its new 25,000 square foot orthopedic, sports medicine and rehabilitation facility at an Open House early August.
Beginning with a ribbon cutting ceremony the group of orthopedic and sports medicine specialists introduced themselves and gave facility tours to those in attendance. The Houston Dynamo signed autographs and participated in outdoor festivities. Attendees enjoyed refreshments, prizes and giveaways.
According to Methodist Willowbrook Hospital Chief Executive Officer Beryl Ramsey, the turnout exceeded expectation. She attributes the success of the open house to the unique services the facility offers, the caliber of physicians on staff and the central location for northwest Houston and surrounding area.
Located on Centerfield Drive just behind Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, the facility is unlike any orthopedic or sports medicine center currently available in northwest Houston.
Home to Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Willowbrook, the center consists of a team of board-certified and fellowship trained orthopedic and sports medicine physicians specializing in primary care sports medicine and orthopedic care of the hand and upper extremity, foot and ankle, hip and spine, and sports injuries. The new facility features a human performance lab, ImPACT baseline concussion testing and management using computerized neuropsychological testing, as well as expansive running and throwing lanes.
The center, which recently kicked off fall sports injury weekend clinics, also has comprehensive physical therapy and rehabilitation services -- which include specialized occupational (hand) therapy.
The Saturday Morning Injury Clinic runs through November 5 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and provides injured athletes with a complete sports injury evaluation by the board certified sports medicine experts, as well as onsite digital x-rays (same day MRI if needed), casting, bracing, splinting and more.
"We're bringing something really unique to the area," said Dr. Korsh Jafarnia, the hand and upper extremity specialist with Methodist Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and Willowbrook. "Previously, to obtain the specialized therapies, evaluations, performance testing and treatments we're able to offer here, patients were required to drive to the medical center. This accessibility is going to facilitate patient recovery and keep young athletes in the area in peak form," Jafarnia added.
