Entrust Digital Certificates the Secret to Notarius' Success with Canada's Trusted Professional Organizations

DALLAS, Nov. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- A respected Entrust Inc. customer since 1999, Canadian security vendor Notarius has finalized a digital signature agreement with the country's top professional organizations. Notarius now delivers trusted, Entrust-based digital signatures to 12 professional engineering associations - varying from engineers, land surveyors, notaries and more - representing close to 165,000 professionals across Canada.

"Digital certificates and signatures extend to solve many of our clients' security challenges and enable a transition toward greater efficiency," said Notarius Business Development Manager Charles Tremblay. "Powered by digital certificates from Entrust, we're able to provide true value to our customers across Canada."

The technological subsidiary of the Chambre des notaires du Quebec, Notarius' digital signature kits enable partner associations to establish an irrefutable link between its members and the electronic documents they produce. These signature kits provide non-repudiation and protect digital documents against any malicious alterations.

"As with many online processes, vetting and authenticating digital identities is of utmost importance, and this deployment allows these trusted professional organizations to achieve that goal," said Entrust President and CEO Bill Conner. "A valued customer for more than a decade, Notarius never fails to create innovative ways to package and deploy proven security software and technology across a wide region."

The digital signature kits - powered by Entrust Authority Security Manager - are leveraged by the Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA); the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba (APEGM); the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of British Columbia (APEGBC); the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC); the Appraisal Institute of Canada (AIC); the Ordre des architectes du Quebec (architects); the Ordre des geologues du Quebec (geologists); the Ordre des arpenteurs-geometres du Quebec (land surveyors); the Ordre des evaluateurs agrees du Quebec (certified appraisers); the Chambre des notaires du Quebec (CNQ); the Ordre des technologues professionnels du Quebec (professional technologists); and the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec (notaries).

Enabled by Entrust PKI technology, Notarius manages close to 8,000 digital certificates used to digitally sign electronic documents. This community of professionals is growing at a current pace of approximately 200 users per month and is ever-increasing. The digital signature toolkits enable secure PDF conversion, seamless PDF digital signature capabilities, print-to-PDF options and more depending on the specific needs of the association. The organizations found great value in the technology, enabling them to avoid the costly alternative of printing, physically signing, and manually handling, shipping and archiving critical documents and communications.

Entrust's first public key infrastructure - the world's first commercially available PKI - was released in 1994. Now in its eighth edition, the Entrust Authority public key infrastructure product portfolio is the industry's most relied-upon PKI solution.

By managing the full lifecycles of digital certificate-based identities, Entrust Authority PKI enables encryption, digital signature and certificate authentication capabilities to be consistently and transparently applied across a broad range of applications and platforms.

Notarius is a non-profit organization founded in 1996. An ISO 9001-certified technology vendor, Notarius leverages PKI technology to deliver secure digital signatures reflecting technological and professional standards of practice. Trusted, easy-to-use and reliable, the Notarius digital signature is the official digital seal/signature for members of 12 professional associations across Canada.

Vorsicht, geheim!
