Michigan Chamber Supports Legislative Action to Reduce Regulatory Burden on Job Providers

LANSING, Mich., Nov. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Michigan Chamber of Commerce praises the State Legislature for approving House Bill 4326, legislation that will help grow businesses in the state by preventing state agencies from enacting rules more stringent than the federal government. The Michigan Chamber has been a strong advocate for regulatory reform which would improve the permitting and rule-making processes and provide certainty for job providers.

"This legislation is a win for job providers because it creates checks and balances on the rules state government places on job providers in Michigan," said Jason Geer, Small Business Advocate for the Michigan Chamber. "HB 4326 prescribes the predictability that job providers deserve; except in cases of a state emergency, the Legislature will have final say on the outer limit of our state laws and regulations."

"Michigan needs to focus our attention on doing what we can to attract and keep job providers in our state," noted Jim Holcomb, Senior Vice President of Business Advocacy & Associate General Counsel for the Michigan Chamber. "This legislation helps accomplish that goal. We urge the Administration to quickly sign this legislation into law to strengthen Michigan's competitive edge."

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce is a statewide business organization representing approximately 6,800 employers, trade associations and local chambers of commerce. The Michigan Chamber represents businesses of every size and type in all 83 counties of the state. The Chamber was established in 1959 to be an advocate for Michigan's job providers in the legislative, political and legal process. It is one of only four state chambers of commerce in the nation accredited by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
