Largest Women's Group WIPP Applauds President Obama's Support for "Small Business Saturday"

WASHINGTON, Nov. 26, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The nation's largest women's business group, Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), praised President Obama today for his support of "Small Business Saturday." The President took his daughters Sasha and Malia to Kramerbooks and Afterwords Cafe in Washington's Dupont Circle.

"President Obama illustrated his understanding of the huge economic impact of shopping local by participating in Small Business Saturday," said WIPP President Barbara Kasoff. "Women small business owners make major contributions to the local and national economy and their communities, and the President's support of these privately-held small businesses encourages us to consider local options during this holiday season."

Small Business Saturday is a national movement promoting consumers to shop local during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. Small businesses employ half of the employees in the private sector in the United States; create 60 to 80 percent of all new jobs annually; and 99 percent of U.S. consumers agree that it is important to support the small businesses in their community. Recently, the U.S. Senate unanimously passed a resolution declaring today "Small Business Saturday."

"Through events such as Small Business Saturday, we keep out local economies strong and help maintain an American economy that can compete and win in the 21st century," said President Obama in a statement released Wednesday. "My Administration is committed to helping small businesses drive our economy toward recovery and long-term growth."

WIPP is a national nonpartisan public policy organization, advocating on behalf of nearly 1 million women-owned businesses representing 58 business organizations.
