Allied Telesis Showcases Networking and Storage Solutions Optimized for Radiology Imaging at RSNA 2011 Radiology Scientific Assembly and Meeting

CHICAGO, Nov. 27, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --RSNA Technical Exhibition: Booth #4642 --In response to the challenges hospitals face to move and store multiple Terabytes of radiology images, Allied Telesis, a global leader in IP/Ethernet networking solutions for enterprise, network service provider, and government institutions, announces a full slate of demonstrations and activities highlighting the performance benefits achieved using high-capacity networking and cloud-based storage at the annual RSNA meeting in Chicago. (See also http://alliedtelesis.com/rsna).

Today, Electronic Medical Records (EMR) implementation, as mandated by the federal government, takes center stage in many medical facilities. This, in turn, necessitates the integration of departmental IT systems and services over a common network. Radiology places the largest demand on such networks due to the volume and size of the Picture and Archiving Communications System (PACS) imaging files, with single files as large as 54 megabytes for a single mammography image. In addition, radiology requires maximum data security, high network availability, and cost-efficient back-up archiving. Allied Telesis provides solutions to these challenges, as demonstrated in its deployments in more than 600 hospitals and clinics worldwide.

In the Allied Telesis booth at RSNA, the Company is demonstrating a complete EMR network solution to support the demands of radiology for moving, accessing, and archiving PACS imaging from the workstation to the cloud. The purpose of the demonstration is to show how a combination of bandwidth, capacity, Quality of Service (QoS) and resiliency designed into the network can deliver more efficiency, better quality of care, and increased productivity for radiologists and technicians. It will also feature the benefits and economies of utilizing cloud-based storage and virtualization to achieve optimum outcomes.

In cooperation with several key healthcare technology partners, Allied Telesis is demonstrating how cloud-based radiology solutions and networks operate in a real-world PACS environment. A powerful and cost-effective web-based PACS/RIS system, a high density virtualized storage system, and a bedside point-of-care system are connected over a resilient high speed network to move and retrieve images. In addition, a demonstration shows how imaging can be visualized using advanced 3D technology.

Allied Telesis will include demonstrations of its NET.Monitor service, which adds value to healthcare IT by providing real-time network and server monitoring, diagnostics, and troubleshooting remotely as a managed service. To simplify network upgrades for EMR or implementing cloud-based data storage, Allied Telesis provides a variety of professional services ranging from network assessment and design to complete systems integration.

In other activities planned around RSNA, Allied Telesis will host an exclusive VIP reception featuring a presentation by Professor Yoshinori Yamashita, the head of the Department of Medical Informatics at Fukui University Department of Medical Sciences in Japan. Professor Yamashita is a published expert in the area of EMR, and played a key role in architecting the high-speed network connecting a private cloud serving the University of Fukui 600-bed hospital. The reception will be held on Tuesday, November 29, from 6:15 PM to 8:00 PM. Details are available in the Allied Telesis booth.

"Patient care today demands a non-stop network and reliable data storage in the era of electronic records," noted Keith Southard, president and CEO of Allied Telesis Capital Credit Corporation. "It is critical to optimize the cloud for storage and virtualization of information, and to have network infrastructure designed to the demands for moving high volumes of data. Allied Telesis brings together the combination of technology and expertise necessary to meet these demands, and at the same time lower the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)."
