ATF Names New Leader for Philadelphia Field Division

Sheree L. Mixell Leads ATF in Pennsylvania to Fight Violent Crime

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 15, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --The Philadelphia Field Division, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced the appointment of Sheree L. Mixell as the Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Philadelphia Field Division, in December 2011.

As the senior executive for the ATF Philadelphia Field Division, she directs personnel and implements strategies to protect communities throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania from violent criminals, criminal organizations, the illegal use and trafficking of firearms, the illegal use and storage of explosives, acts of arson and criminal bombings, acts of terrorism, and the illegal diversion of alcohol and tobacco products.

"I look forward to partnering with law enforcement agencies, the firearms and explosive industries, public safety entities, and the communities, throughout Pennsylvania to safeguard the public from violent crime." said Mixell. "ATF is committed to identifying and targeting those violent offenders who impede public safety and diminish our quality of life."

Ms. Mixell is a native of Indiana and has earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice. She began her career as a special agent with ATF in 1990. She has over 23 years of law enforcement experience. As a field agent she successfully conducted numerous complex and multi-jurisdictional criminal investigations involving violent individuals who committed federal firearm and narcotics offenses. She also served as a member of the Baltimore Field Division Special Response Team for three years, responding to high risk situations to apprehend some of the region's most violent criminals.

In 1997, she was promoted as a supervisory special agent and held several positions to include the Group Supervisor for the Washington Field Division Intelligence Group and Regional Crime Gun Center. Her duties consisted of overseeing personnel in strategic and tactical analysis of law enforcement intelligence and making recommendations and assessments regarding criminal trends and patterns involving illegal firearms, explosives, arsons, and violent street gangs. Further, she coordinated ATF support to criminal investigations and major events, such as the 2001 Presidential Inauguration, the International Monetary Fund (IMF)/World Bank events, and the D.C. Sniper investigation.

In 2004 Ms. Mixell was promoted to the Chief of the Office of Public Affairs at ATF's National Headquarters, where she had oversight of ATF's national communication program and strategy, and served as the agency's national spokesperson.

Most recently, she served as the Assistant Special Agent in Charge of ATF's Baltimore Field Division where she directed and provided oversight of daily investigative related activities of personnel in both Maryland and Delaware. She successfully led a number of law enforcement initiatives in the region, including the Violent Crime Impact Team, the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Initiative, and the Firearms Trafficking Initiative.

Ms. Mixell has served as the Vice President and President of the Women in Federal Law Enforcement (WIFLE) Executive Committee and continues to serve as a volunteer, founding and lifetime member of the organization. She is also a member of the Liaison Officers Association and the International Association of the Chiefs of Police (IACP).

As the agency head in Pennsylvania, Ms. Mixell brings executive leadership and vast experience to one of ATF's larger field divisions that encompasses the country's 5th largest city. The Philadelphia Field Division is responsible for more than 2,500 federal firearm dealers and 770 explosives licensees. She will lead enforcement operations and industry regulation activities of special agents, industry operations investigators, task force officers, and administrative staff, throughout the State, to continue the fight against violent crime.
