VIENNA, Va., Jan. 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --As the industry commemorates the 110th Anniversary of Marconi's first transatlantic wireless message, a consortium of international carriers is shaping the future through Global Business Exchange for Telecom (GBET) - a voluntary association of carriers whose goal is to fullyutilize electronic data exchange protocols for commercial, operational, and financial information between participants.
Open to the entire wholesale community, GBET members currently include Verizon, TeliaSonera, Deutsche Telekom, PCCW, IBasis, and Telarix. The shared mission is the adoption of electronic exchange standards for international wholesale transactions, and the fostering of open communication among carriers in order to reduce costs, maximize revenue, and better manage present and future challenges and opportunities.
"As Marconi's wireless message was the first step in changing global communications, GBET is the first step in revolutionizing carrier efficiency," said Deutsche Telekom's Margaret Morosi, Chairperson of GBET. "When customers demanded seamless, worldwide connection our industry responded with extraordinary service. GBET is raising the transactional standards between carriers to a similarly high level."
"The explosion of voice and data traffic, as well as next generation networks, has created carrier-to-carrier information bottlenecks and data exchange inefficiencies that cost our industry over $6 billion every year," said Douglas Maine, Chairman of Telarix, Inc. "It is essential that we cooperatively develop best practices and processes that allow each carrier's back-office to cost-effectively interface with one another. GBET is the platform doing just that kind of solutions-based problem solving."
GBET is participating in PTC, and will be discussing with industry members current projects, future plans, and how to become members.
