Across the country, high school students members of the nonpartisan Junior State of America (JSA) will tune in on Tuesday to watch the State of the Union speech. Students will then post their reaction to the speech on JSA's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/JuniorState). With JSA chapters on nearly 450 high schools across in 35 states, the responses will be representative of a cross section of America's youth.
Several JSA student members will be available by phone to comment on their personal reaction to President Obama's speech on Tuesday. Additionally, JSA members from Bergen County Academy in Bergen, NJ will gather together for a State of the Union watch party. For student reaction to the State of the Union speech, contact Jeff Harris at (650) 544-5008 or jharris@jsa.org.
The upcoming election is critical for the future direction of the country. JSA members understand that their futures depend on the outcome of the election. When politicians avoid finding solutions to the big issues challenging the country, they "kick the can down the road" and create a crisis for today's youth who will face the consequences five, ten or fifteen years from now when they graduate from college, start their careers and start a family. Students will be watching the State of the Union Speech and looking for signs that our leaders in Washington DC are ready to start working together to ensure a bright future for the country.
