University of Phoenix Names 2012 Student and Faculty Member of the Year

TULSA, Okla., Feb. 16, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- University of Phoenix Tulsa Campus will recognize Maj. Rob Turner of the Tulsa Police Department as the 2012 Faculty Member of the Year, and Heather Horinek as the 2012 Student of the Year at its commencement ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 18. Sen. Rick Brinkley, Owasso, will be the keynote speaker. The ceremony will be held at the John Q. Hammons Multi Purpose Activity Center (UMAC) in Tulsa.

Rob Turner is the director of training for the Tulsa Police Department and is lead faculty for University of Phoenix College of Criminal Justice at the Tulsa Campus. He has taught at the University since 2003. Turner is a veteran police officer, first serving in Edmond, Okla., and then in Tulsa since 1979. He is an advisory council member for the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training and serves on the board of the FOP Credit Union. He is also president of Tulsa Police Service to Mankind (SERTOMA), a service club dedicated to helping the deaf and hearing impaired.

"In their nominations, students praised Maj. Turner's ability to explain the complexities of criminal justice and to prepare them for next-level learning."

Heather Horinek completed her Bachelor of Science in Health Administration in two years, while maintaining a 3.98 grade point average. She previously earned an associate degree at Tulsa Community College.

"With her outstanding educational accomplishments, focus on excellence and a demonstrated aptitude for success, Heather Horinek is truly a model University of Phoenix graduate," Santiago added.
