MADD Colorado Celebrates Dedicated MADDvocates

MADDvocate Appreciation event recognizes the efforts of volunteers, sponsors, donors and community supporters

DENVER, Feb. 25, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Colorado held its annual MADDvocate Appreciation event honoring the efforts of dedicated volunteers, sponsors, donors and community supporters. The "MADD loves MADDvocates"-themed brunch and an awards ceremony took place at the Downtown Aquarium in Denver.

"Without the dedication of our volunteers and community supporters, and the generosity of our sponsors and donors, MADD Colorado's programs and services simply would not be possible," said Emily Tompkins, MADD Colorado State Executive Director. "We are grateful for all that our MADDvocates do to make our programs a reality. Our victim services, advocacy, youth programs, victim impact panels and events like Walk Like MADD® happen thanks to efforts of our devoted MADDvocates."

The 2012 event was presented by the law firm of Bell & Pollock, P.C., MADD Colorado's 2012 victim services sponsor. "Our law firm sees the devastating effects of drunk driving crashes every day. The individuals honored here today work tirelessly to accomplish MADD Colorado's lifesaving mission to stop drunk driving, support the victims of this violent crime and prevent underage drinking. We're proud to work with them to make our communities safer," said Gary Bell, Founding Partner of Bell & Pollock, P.C.

At the MADDvocate Appreciation event, MADD Colorado honored Barbara Brodt with the first annual Barbara Brodt Award for her outstanding contributions, involvement and commitment to furthering MADD's mission. In 1983, Barbara Brodt founded the Denver Metro Chapter, which is now the MADD Colorado state office. She started the Chapter after her mother, Dorothy Brodt, was killed in a crash caused by a drunk driver on February 11, 1982.

Also honored for their longstanding dedication to MADD Colorado were: Glenn Davis, Kara Davis, Sandy Eversole, Amber Gray, McKayla Gray, Heather Halpape, Jeanne Highline, Bear Kay, Patricia Kule, Joey Lawson, Julie Legg, Craig Mansfield, Josh Thurmond and Brock Vendsel who each received the prestigious MADD Colorado Hero Award.
