SAN DIEGO, Feb. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Nirvanix today announced the appointment of Dave Barr as Vice President of Cloud Storage Engineering, effective immediately. "It's clear that cloud storage services are disrupting the enterprise storage market, as evidenced by Nirvanix's multi-petabyte cloud storage wins and triple digit growth in 2011," said Scott Genereux, President & CEO of Nirvanix. "With the addition of Dave Barr, Nirvanix continues to expand its capabilities in both product development and management talent and is positioned to continue posting material market share gains."

"When it comes to storage, the time has come for companies to move away from the physical box to the virtual cloud," said Dave Barr, Vice President of Engineering, Nirvanix. "What impressed me about Nirvanix is that unlike primitive cloud storage offerings, Nirvanix delivers a purpose-built cloud storage service architected specifically for companies with business-critical enterprise data. The company has significant momentum and I look forward to introducing additional innovations to their cloud services portfolio to further accelerate growth."

HP acquired LeftHand in Oct. 2008, where Barr was Director of Engineering. Prior to LeftHand, Barr was Director of Engineering at Spectra Logic, where he was responsible for all aspects of development on leading-edge robotic tape libraries and disk-based backup products. Prior to that he held senior engineering positions at Phoenix Technologies, NCR and Marconi Instruments.
