RS Components Supports Life Saving Team

CORBY, England, March 5, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --

- Funding of new kit bags will help save lives

RS Components (RS), the world's leading high service distributor of electronics and maintenance products and the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), is helping to save lives in Northamptonshire after funding a life saving medical kit bag.

RS Components, who provide a range of personal protection and site safety equipment, including respiratory protectors, fire extinguishers and signs are the perfect kit bag donators. The donation will help volunteers in the Corby Community First Responder (CFR) scheme to administer life saving treatment before an ambulance can arrive in those areas of the county that are more remote.

Volunteers are trained by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) to a nationally recognised level to deliver a fast response to people who suffer a heart attack, have chest pains, are unconscious or have severe breathing difficulties. The kit bag, which contains an Automated External Defibrillator, aspirators, breathing masks and basic first aid equipment helps CFRs to save lives or prevent disabilities from injury.

Corby Community First Responders group co-ordinator Hughie Levenie commented: "East Midlands Ambulance Service provides the necessary training and support, but the CFR scheme is financially self supporting and we are therefore grateful for any input from local business and community groups. Our volunteers provide a service to the Corby community to help the Ambulance Service save lives and the donation from RS Components will allow us to buy more equipment to provide this service."

After hearing about the scheme from RS UK employees, the business was delighted to add its support. RS Components UK General Manager Paul Quested said: "The medical assistance given by the Community First Responders is invaluable so we are thrilled to be able to fund a new kit bag. We are the largest employer in Corby so are pleased to support an initiative that can really help local people."
