NEW YORK, March 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --In honor of the Philadelphia Phillies baseball team's return to Clearwater, Fla. for spring training, Mayor George N. Cretekos presented the key to the City of Clearwater to Philadelphia's favorite mascot, the Phillie Phanatic. The Phillies have called this beach town their second home since 1947 and the city proudly welcomed them back for the 66th year.
Fans converged at Bright House Field to cheer on their favorite team in their spring training opener against the Yankees on March 3. This year the Phillie Phanatic joined the celebration on a fun-filled tour of Clearwater.
"The Phillie Phanatic has been exciting Phillies fans throughout the country for years. We in Clearwater are pleased to welcome him back and to help him relax and train before the start of another successful Phillies season," said Clearwater Mayor, George N. Cretekos.
During his stay, the Phanatic visited local spots such as Frenchy's Rockaway, Lenny's Restaurant, and the Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill and Bar. He set sail on Captain Memo's Pirate Cruise and rode the Clearwater Jolley Trolley down the Beach Walk to Captain Bligh's Landing Miniature Golf.
The Phillie Phanatic enjoyed Clearwater's white sandy beaches, playgrounds, and a Segway journey down the Beach Walk provided by Segway Adventure. Bright House Field has played host to game-time excitement since completion in 2004 and features 7,300 fixed seats. The field houses a tiki hut pavilion, group picnic areas, party suites, club seats, a play area, and team store.
