Resources Developed to Prompt Show Discussions
In preparation for its exhibit at this week's Analytica trade event, held April 17-20 in Munich, Germany, Bal Seal Engineering, Inc. has announced the availability of two new resources for designers and manufacturers of liquid chromatography pumps.
Bal Seal, a supplier of custom-engineered sealing solutions for analytical equipment, has produced a five-minute podcast addressing the challenges of achieving reliable, consistent operation of LC pumps at pressures of 20 kpsi and above. It has also published a technical article entitled "Breaking the Barrier" in the April 5th issue of Machine Design, a U.S. trade magazine serving the engineering community. The company says it developed these resources in an effort to change the way engineers think about how seals and pumps work together, and to "get the conversation started" at Analytica.
"Our message is that seals alone won't get engineers to the next level of LC pump pressure," says Steve Twork, a Bal Seal Global Market Manager who co-authored the article and participated in the podcast interview. "By getting that basic idea out there, and providing detailed suggestions about how to meet the 20 kpsi challenge, we're hoping to prompt some interesting and productive discussions at the Analytica show."
According to Twork, industry demands for higher sample resolution and better throughput rates have been pushing instrument makers to increase operating pressures beyond their current 17 to 19 kpsi ceiling. New seal material formulations and profiles – such as those being developed by Bal Seal – are part of the solution, he says. But a rethinking of traditional LC pump hardware design may also be necessary.
Bal Seal will exhibit at Stand 511 in hall A3 at Analytica 2012 in Munich, Germany, April 17- 20th at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre. For more information about the event, visit http://www.analytica.de/en. Details about Bal Seal products for analytical equipment can be found at www.balseal.com.
