"Coal-fired power plants are not likely to be replaced by alternative energy or nuclear power any time soon, and gas-fired plants still emit considerable CO2," said ThermoEnergy CEO Cary Bullock. "At a time of high unemployment, it makes sense to preserve jobs in the coal mining, transportation and power generation sectors. Clean coal technologies like pressurized oxy-combustion (POXC) can capture CO2 and other emissions within a power plant for sequestration or re-use and help keep older coal-fired plants in service, with near-zero emissions."
Bullock also noted that POXC technology can be exported and fitted onto coal-fired power plants worldwide, which would help reduce pollution while reducing America's trade deficit. ThermoEnergy recently formed Unity Power Alliance to promote POXC technology to develop, promote, demonstrate and commercialize POXC in the U.S. and internationally. In addition, Bullock pointed out that ThermoEnergy expects new rules on coal-fired power plant emissions which were finalized recently by the EPA to spur demand for effective, efficient, clean combustion technology.
