Walden University Faculty Present at American Counseling Association Conference & Expo

MINNEAPOLIS, April 24, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --Faculty members from Walden University'sSchool of Counseling and Social Service presented their research and best practices at theAmerican Counseling Association's (ACA) 2012 Conference & Exposition, held March 21-25 in San Francisco. The annual event brings together professional counselors from various practice settings to network and learn.

Thirteen faculty members from the School of Counseling and Social Service presented at this year's conference:

In addition, several Walden faculty members were honored at this year's conference for their work in the counseling profession. Dr. BrandeFlamez, Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision program, received the ACA's Gilbert and Kathleen Wrenn Award for a Humanitarian and Caring Person and was recognized for her selfless contributions to the profession. She also was honored by The Association for Humanistic Counseling, one of the original divisions of the ACA, and received the Humanistic Advocacy and Social Justice Award. The Association for Humanistic Counseling also recognized two other Walden faculty members:

  • Dr. Michelle Perepiczka, M.S. in Mental Health Counseling program, received the Humanistic Educator/Supervisor Award
  • Dr. Donna Sheperis, M.S. in Mental Health Counseling program, received the Humanistic Clinician Award

Walden also supported a local food drive during the conference. Attendees were encouraged to donate canned food, which was used to construct a replica of the Transamerica Pyramid in partnership with San Francisco Canstruction. Walden and attendees donated 16,000 pounds of food to the San Francisco Food Bank as a result of the food drive.
