OTTAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwire) -- 04/27/12 -- Today, the Honourable Lisa Raitt, Canada's Labour Minister, congratulated Bearskin Lake Air Service Ltd. and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Local 175, for ratifying a new collective agreement.
"I am very pleased that Bearskin Lake Air Service Ltd. and the UFCW have reached an agreement," said Minister Raitt. "Strong labour-management relations benefit our country's economic prosperity and the economic security of Canadians."
The UFCW, Local 175, represents approximately 20 passenger service agents. Bearskin Lake Air Service Ltd., which operates as Bearskin Airlines, is a regional airline that operates services in northern Ontario and Manitoba with over 40 scheduled daily departures. Their previous collective agreement expired on November 30, 2011.
The agreement was reached with assistance from the Labour Program's Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides dispute resolution and dispute prevention assistance to trade unions and employers under the jurisdiction of the Canada Labour Code.
