LiNKS Sign Language & Interpreting Services and REACH-reaching diversity will hold a 40-hour healthcare workshop for interpreters who work in healthcare. The 5-day training will meet the minimum requirements for Interpreters who seek Certification as a Medical Interpreter.
Southern California's diversity gives the region its rich cultural environment and the need for individuals who can speak several languages. Especially in health care, patients and medical personnel need interpreters who can orally transfer a message from one spoken language into another. To assure that all patients receive the care they need, receiving services from a certified interpreter is essential.
The Connection World Training for Healthcare Interpreters will be held in five one-day sessions on June 9, 10, 23, 24 and 30th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Goodwill SOLAC's main office at 800 W. Pacific Coast Hwy, Long Beach, CA 90806.
Chuck Scarpaci, Director of LiNKS Sign Language & Interpreting Services, said, "Hosting this workshop is an extension of our services. Interpreting is the conversion of meaning from one language to another language, not necessarily word for word. Words do not have meaning, meaning has words," said Scarpaci.
Presented by Rosanna Balistreri, MA, the training includes an introduction to the California Healthcare Interpreting Association's Standards for Healthcare Interpreters, an overview of ethical principles, standardized interpreting protocols, roles interventions, and an ethical decision making process is provided. The training also includes interpreting practice and case studies. In addition, medical terminology is woven into practice activities each day of the training.
