PwC releases new Technology Forecast: Reshaping the Workforce with the New Analytics

NEW YORK, May 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ --PwC US today released the latest issue of its Technology Forecast series entitled, "Reshaping the workforce with the new analytics." The new issue examines advanced analytics through the lens of increasing instrumentation, and includes interviews with senior executives and subject matter experts who are at the forefront of development in this area.

"With increasing reliance on data to understand business processes, enterprises are quickly learning that measuring and retaining data on all aspects of the enterprise over all relevant periods of time is extremely challenging, even with today's IT capacities," said Tom DeGarmo, principal and Technology Consulting Leader at PwC. "Smart enterprises have adopted the science of advanced analytics to target the most important determinants of business success, which is often customer information. Leading organizations around the world are establishing a new culture of inquiry, where decisions are driven by analytical precision that rivals scientific insight."

In this issue of the Technology Forecast, PwC addresses customer analytics, new analytics technology, social media intelligence, and how CIOs can build the foundation for a data science culture. According to PwC, the flow of data at this new, more complete level of resolution travels in an arc -- beginning with big data techniques, through advanced statistical packages, to analytics virtualization tools that put interactive graphics in the control of business unit specialists. This arc positions the enterprise to make decisions driven by analytical precision that rivals scientific insight.

PwC's Technology Forecast addresses different aspects of new analytics, including:

  • The third wave of customer analytics and the impact of basic computing trends on emerging analytics technologies. Enterprises have an unprecedented opportunity to reshape how business gets done, especially when it comes to customers.
  • The art and science of new analytics technology, in exploring the mix of different techniques involved in making the insights gained from analytics more useful, relevant, and visible. Some of these techniques are clearly in the data science realm, while others are more art than science.
  • Natural language processing and social media intelligence and the many different language analytics techniques in use for social media and what combinations can be most effective.
  • How CIOs can build the foundation for a data science culture: New analytics is an unusually promising opportunity for CIOs. In the best case scenario, the IT organization can become the go-to group, and the CIO can become the true information leader again.

PwC will also be hosting a webcast on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 1:30PM - 2:30PM EDT on this issue of the Technology Forecast. Tom DeGarmo, Alan Morrison and Bo Parker of PwC's Center for Technology and Innovation, and Mike Driscoll, CEO of Metamarkets, will explore how the new analytics may affect a company's organizational change strategy.
