Alais L. M. Griffin Joins Greenberg Traurig's Chicago Office

CHICAGO, May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The International law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP announced today that Alais L. M. Griffin has joined its Chicago office as a Shareholder in the Litigation, Transportation and Governmental Affairs Practices.

Prior to joining the firm, Griffin served as a political appointee in the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) for three years. She first served as Counselor to the General Counsel, where she worked closely with the Office of the Secretary and other senior political appointees on the Department's regulatory, policy and litigation matters. She subsequently served as the Chief Counsel for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the DOT agency that oversees commercial motor vehicles. As the Agency's Chief Legal Officer, Griffin managed FMCSA's litigation matters as well as the legal and strategic review of Agency policies, programs and regulations. In her capacity as a Senior Advisor, Griffin also worked regularly on legislative and regulatory matters with the White House, other Executive Branch agencies and Congress.

Griffin will focus her practice on litigation, with an emphasis on transportation and regulatory matters. She has represented a wide variety of clients in commercial litigation, securities fraud, product liability, white-collar criminal and property tax appeal matters. She also brings extensive experience in transportation-related litigation, regulations and laws, as well as in regulatory development and other government processes.

Griffin is a former law clerk to the Honorable Harry D. Leinenweber, United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. She earned her J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University School of Law, where she served as the Executive Editor of the Northwestern University Law Review and was a member of the Order of the Coif. She received her B.A., cum laude, from Harvard University.
